A New Orleans toile wedding at the Cabildo: Olivia and Ethan
Some couples want their city in the background. Olivia and Ethan wanted it in the paper.
They married on an April afternoon at the Cabildo, right off Jackson Square, and celebrated at Brennan's. Between those two addresses sits about three hundred years of New Orleans, and their suite leaned all the way into it. Soft blush, garden green, fleur de lis, toile, and a crest with two crawfish holding court at the top of it.
This one was a joy from the very first sketch.

The palette
Blush and green. Not spring pastel, not sage, something warmer and older than that. The kind of green you see on a shuttered Creole cottage and the kind of pink you see in a courtyard at five o'clock.
The two colors traded places all weekend. Blush paper with green type on the save the date. Green paper with blush type on the reply card. Green and blush stripes on the rehearsal dinner backer. Nothing matched exactly, and that is precisely why it worked.
The save the date
We opened with a custom New Orleans toile, printed tone on tone in blush so the pattern read as texture rather than illustration. Look closely and the city is in there, buildings and trees and river.
The card itself was die cut with a shaped edge, gently scalloped at the corners, with a fine double rule frame and a small hand drawn “love alligators” at the top.

It is playful and formal at the same time, which is a very hard thing to pull off and a very New Orleans thing to be.
The invitation suite
The invitation itself went quieter and more formal, as a Cabildo ceremony deserves.
Ivory stock, a shaped top edge, a double rule border, and a single blush fleur de lis centered at the top. The wording was traditional, the couple's full names set in script, the ceremony at the Cabildo, reception to follow at Brennan's, formal attire. One small blush rule divides the names from the details. Nothing else.
The outer envelope carried "Kindly Deliver To" in script above the guest address, framed in that same double rule so the frame was the first thing a guest saw and the last thing they saw when the invitation slid out.
The reply card flipped everything. Deep garden green, printed with the toile in white, pointing guests to the couple's website. Small card, big personality.

A suite for the whole weekend
The ceremony programs were tall and slim, set entirely in script from the welcome through the blessing of the rings, and finished with a hand tied silk ribbon bow in dusty rose. The ribbon was the only color on the piece, and it was enough.

The bar sign said what everybody was thinking. "C'est si bon, have a drink!" with the full list of wines, beer, spirits, and non alcoholic options, in a custom linen frame in the same rule border and softened with watercolor florals in the corners in blush and green. Guests read it, laughed, and got in line.

Why it worked
Their suite had a vocabulary. A toile, a crest, a fleur de lis, a rule frame, two colors that kept swapping roles. Once those five things existed, every single piece of the weekend had somewhere to come from, whether it was a formal invitation to a ceremony in a two hundred year old building or a tin of throws named after the groom.
That is what a fully custom suite buys a couple. Not just a beautiful invitation, but a language their whole wedding can speak.
